During my tenure at the Boston Globe, I wrote primarily feature articles on significant health and science stories. I did some daily journalism, but most of my work was on longer term articles and projects. I was constantly juggling 4-5 stories at a time as well as generating dozens of story ideas on a daily basis. Journalism isn't so much about what is or is not worth writing--there are always stories worth writing--it is about brainstorming as many different ideas as possible in response to current political and social trends and responding with whatever is most timely and necessary. Professional journalism -- like many other professional positions -- is a blancing act requiring dedication, creativity, and most of all an ability to learn-fast and adapt-quickly.

The articles that are posted are samples from my portfolio of professional work, which I expect to continue to grow and branch out into a variety of other publications (newspapers, magazines, and journals). All of the links provided are to scanned .PDF versions of the articles, so if you don't have it already, you will need to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view them.

I am currently a writer in the Public Affairs department at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where I specialize in research and medical education coverage and work closely with the Development department on donor relations issues and in covering landmark community events. Stories appear in several different in-house print and on-line publications, each geared towards a distinct audience, ranging from high level donors, to the local medical community, to hospital staff.

Samples of several types of coverage are included. All the links are to .PDF excerpts of the printed publications, so if you don't have it already, you will need to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view them.
